Have an Awesome 4th of July Celebration with These Great Suggestions!

Celebrating America’s Independence Day doesn’t mean you need to get out of the house in your best clothes. After all, it’s really about how you prefer to commemorate the occasion and spend the day. If you prefer to just relax indoors and even catch up on some much-needed sleep, go right ahead. However, for those looking forward to having a little more fun and enjoying a more celebratory atmosphere, there are tons that you can do to liven things up:

Enjoy a Beautiful Fireworks Display

You can expect red, white and blue to show up prominently in the night sky. After all, there’s just something magical and appealing about bright colors and dazzling patterns, and it’s definitely a suitable activity for all ages.

If you’re looking to enjoy some awesome 4th of July fireworks in San Diego, you should definitely head on over for the “Big Bay Boom” event at San Diego Bay. There will be a total of four barges placed around Harbor Island, Embarcadero North, Embarcadero South Marina Park, Seaport Village, and Coronado Ferry Landing. It’ll last for approximately 17 minutes, so you should definitely find a good spot and bring along everything you need to comfortably enjoy the largest fireworks show in Southern California.

Venue: 4 Barges along San Diego Bay

Time & Date: 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. (4 July)

Admission: FREE

Have a Cookout or BBQ

For those looking to spend some time at home, there’s always the option of heating up the grill and tossing on your favorites for a good old hearty meal. Make it a family affair or invite the entire neighborhood to chip in and dig in. Can you already imagine the tantalizing smells wafting through the air? You can also turn the occasion into a potluck of sorts so that everyone will be able to contribute something yummy and delicious to the menu.

Take a Trip to the Lake or Beach

Since Independence Day falls squarely in summer, you know what the temperature is going to be like. If you’re looking to spend some time outdoors, you can always head to the nearest lake or beach to cool off. Of course, you can expect popular spots to be more crowded, but if that doesn’t put you off, it’s definitely a refreshing way to spend your 4th of July.

Dress Up in Red, White, and Blue

Although it isn’t necessary to dress up in celebratory colors, it does work to liven up the atmosphere all the more. These days, you can easily find tons of ideas on the Internet on how you can dress up both comfortably and patriotically (meaning to emphasize the colors red, white and blue). If you’re into makeup and costumes, there are also tons of tutorials you can view to create a stunning look.

Dine on America’s Iconic Foods

Sure, you might already be dining on this pretty regularly, but you’ll need to remember that this is a significant milestone in America’s history, so why not go ahead and indulge in pure American fare with that in mind? You won’t be the only one looking forward to chowing down on iconic American foods, so just get in there with everyone.

For those looking to dine out instead of having to prepare something at home, you can always visit Hodad’s, a small chain of popular hamburger joints in San Diego. Here, you can feast on juicy burger patties and all the sides your heart has been longing for.

Venue: 3 Locations in San Diego (do check the website for more details)

Spend Time with Family

It’s a great opportunity for family members to get together and just spend time bonding and having fun. Grab a couple of board games, bring out the snacks, and just look forward to laughing a whole lot and enjoying yourself. If that doesn’t appeal to you, you can always get out together and join in the many 4th of July celebrations happening in your area.

Go on Vacation

This year, the 4th of July happens to fall on a Thursday. If you’ve been meaning to take a break for a while now, this is your chance to do so. Just put in your leave for Friday and you’ll have a total of 4 days to enjoy your getaway. You won’t be the only one planning a trip, so to avoid inflated costs and disappointment, you can always make your bookings and reservations earlier on.

Decorate Your Home

Nothing shouts out louder and prouder than festive decorations to mark this momentous occasion. Decorate with the American flag and other red, white and blue items. You can even give it a contemporary twist by incorporating the pattern in banners and streamers. If you’re holding a party or gathering, you can also prepare 4th of July plates, cups and napkins.

Watch a Parade

Other than fireworks, most towns and cities also host their own 4th of July parades. This is a great opportunity to enjoy a full marching spectacle that often includes a marching band, fire trucks, floats and other community organizations.

As usual, Rancho Sante Fe will be holding their annual 4th of July Parade and Picnic. Everyone is invited to join in the parade which will start off at the R. Roger Rowe School gymnasium parking lot. There will also be a picnic and concert at 1:30 p.m., so do remember to bring your blankets and chairs to enjoy the day with everyone. Here, you’ll get to experience live music, tons of food and activities.
