Being right near the ocean, there is always the opportunity to hit the beach, but San Diego is also an excellent place to shop, sightsee, and dine. For the few hours you have between meetings on your next business trip, consider the following options for things to see.

  • Balboa Park – Simply beautiful, Balboa Park stretches over 1,200 acres in the heart of the city. As the largest urban park in the country, there are 15 major museums, as well as 85 cultural organizations. The park includes lush gardens, walking paths, the San Diego Air and Space Museum, and, of course, the highly regarded San Diego Zoo.

  • Bay Time Venture – You might also consider spending time down by the bay. This location is close to the San Diego Convention Center and breathtakingly beautiful. There, you can relax on the beach, take a dip in the ocean, or stroll around to see some of the many quaint shops in the area.

  • Harbor Cruise – Another thing to do while in between meetings in San Diego is to enjoy a relaxing harbor cruise. You can easily book a cruise well in advance or purchase a ticket onsite. On either the Hornblower or a Flagship cruise, you have the opportunity to take a one- or two-hour guided and narrated tour with incredible sights of naval ships, the Star of India, and the Coronado Bay Bridge. This type of tour is offered all year long and includes snacks as well as soda, water, and, for those not going back to work, wine and beer.

  • USS Midway – If you enjoy history, you could spend time taking a historical tour of one of the longest serving aircraft carriers in existence. You will gain a firsthand experience of being onboard a floating city. Throughout the year, more than 225,000 sailors call the USS Midway home. There are 50 impressive exhibits that chronicle the ship’s travels, as well as 29 aircrafts that have been fully restored. For something extra special, there are two flight simulators on the ship.

  • Maritime Museum of San Diego – A couple of hours of downtime would also provide you the chance to visit this museum, which has one of the finest collections of historic ships in the world. While there, you can also step onboard the Star of India, which was originally built in 1863 and is the oldest active ship in the entire world.

  • Whale and Dolphin Watching – The marine life in San Diego is exceptional, so a short cruise to watch whales and dolphins would be an ideal way to spend time. The best tours are in RIB boats, which are low profile so you have a more personal view of the fabulous marine life.

To get to and from your short excursion, hire a sedan, SUV, or mini-bus from a limousine company, such as Carey San Diego. That way you know you will see what you want but still be back in time to continue on with the day’s meetings.
