Most of us are staying in cities these days, but that doesn’t mean we’re completely cut of from the beauty of nature and Mother Earth. In fact, since our awareness of the environment and its naturally-occurring health benefits, more emphasis has been given to creating and maintaining green public places for everyone to enjoy. Whether you intend to go for a jog, spend time with your family, or take some beautiful outdoor photos, get inspired by our list of San Diego outdoor attractions down below:

Torrey Pines State Beach and Park

Due to conservation efforts, you’ll get to enjoy what’s considered one of the wildest, and most undeveloped areas in San Diego. If you’ve never seen a twisted Torrey pine tree before, you should definitely take the opportunity to do so, since it’s only found in two places on earth. If you’re at the bottom portion of the bluffs overlooking the ocean, you can also have fun on the sandy beach.

Location: 12600 N Torrey Pines Rd, La Jolla, CA 92037

Opening Hours: 7:15 a.m. to Sunset (7 Days a Week)

Admission: FREE

Balboa Park

You really must spend at least a day in this beautiful park. If you’ve yet to see the wonders inside, do stop by the Visitor’s Centre to pick up a map and guide, and also purchase your Balboa Park Passport to gain entry to most of the park’s attractions. One of the biggest highlights is the San Diego Zoo, but there are also plenty of other fun and enjoyable things to do here, including visiting one of their 15 museums, wandering through the botanical gardens, and even lawn bowling.

Location: San Diego, CA

Opening Hours: Opens 24/7 (7 Days a Week)

Admission: FREE (but attractions are priced separately)

La Jolla Cove

Although it’s essentially a small beach nestled between sandstone cliffs, La Jolla Cove really is a beautiful sight to behold. In fact, it’s so amazingly picturesque that it has become one of the most photographed locations in Southern California. It’s situated within the San Diego La Jolla Underwater Park Ecological Reserve, and its thriving marine life is protected, so you’ll definitely get to enjoy stunning blue waters.

Location: 8246 La Vereda, La Jolla, CA 92037

Opening Hours: Opens 24/7 (7 Days a Week)

Admission: FREE

Sunset Cliffs Natural Park

Extending one and a half miles along the Point Loma peninsula’s western shoreline, this unique nature offering features beautiful cliff formations and caves, an intertidal area, fantastic ocean views, and plenty of native coastal sage scrub habitat. It’s a great place for outdoor activities, and if you’re into surfing, hiking, and even just admiring nature at its finest, you should definitely pay this park a visit.

Location: Ladera St, San Diego, CA 92107

Opening Hours: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Open 7 Days a Week)

Admission: FREE

Ellen Browning Scripps Park

It’s a popular spot for weddings, but even if that’s not your intention, it’s also a great place to relax and unwind in the midst of nature’s beauty. Located in La Jolla, it has become one of the most popular hangout spaces for all ages, and if you’re looking to share photos with beautiful backgrounds, you’re definitely in the right place. Enjoy three stunning beaches, plenty of lush greenery, as well as beautiful sunsets while you’re here.

Location: 1100 Coast Blvd, La Jolla, CA 92037

Opening Hours: 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Open 7 Days a Week)

Admission: FREE

Mission Trails Regional Park

The beauty of the valleys, hills and open areas in San Diego is epitomized by this massive park. You might think that you’ll need a day’s travel to reach, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised to know that it’s only eight miles northeast of downtown San Diego. If you’re interested to visit the third Jewel in the City of San Diego Park System, get ready for your breath to be taken away.

Location: 1 Father Junipero Serra Trail, San Diego, CA 92119

Opening Hours: Opens 24/7 (Open 7 Days a Week)

Admission: FREE
