5 Ways to Make the Most of Your Airport Layovers

If you’re traveling with a friend or in a group, things can be a lot less boring during layovers. After all, you can grab a bite to eat, talk about similar interests, and even play games together. In an ideal world, we would never have to travel by ourselves, but we do know that there will be times when we simply just have to travel solo. Instead of moping around and zoning out on the airport bench, just take a look at some of our suggested activities for any length of layover:

Work Out at the Airport

You really shouldn’t start panicking at the thought of exercising at the airport. These days, there are plenty of ways to exercise without calling too much attention to yourself. If you’re feeling nervous about people looking your way, try to find a quiet corner to do some stretches and calisthenics. Some airports these days even come with a gym and shower, so you can also give that a try on your next layover.

Leave the Airport to Explore

Why not get some fresh air out in the open and away from the airport? After all, if you’ve seen the inside of one airport, you’ve more or less seen the insides of other airports. Plan your trip beforehand so that you can maximize your travel experience, and just get out and about before getting back to catch your flight. Just remember to take the traffic and waiting lines into consideration before finalizing your itinerary.

Play a Game

There are tons of games available that are easy to bring along for your trip. From light versions of scrabble and monopoly to classics like chess and solitaire, the sky’s really the limit. Get your travel companion to indulge in a game with you to pass the time. If you have no qualms about approaching a stranger, you can always attempt to invite them to have some fun with you.

Chat with Someone Else

Opening up our mouths and approaching a stranger can be quite a daunting experience for some of us, but it can well be worth it. You can end up with a life-long friend or in the worst-case scenario, end up spending your time listening to a dull litany. Whichever the case though, there’s always something to learn from anything, no matter how innocuous it may seem.

Work Remotely

These days, it’s not uncommon to walk through the airport and spot people staring at their phone, tablet or laptop screens. If you’re one of those people, you’re probably aware of how to go about finding a power source for your gadgets as well as Wi-Fi (if necessary), and a quiet enough spot to do your thing. If you have sufficient time during your layover, this is a good time to catch up on some non-demanding work.
