10 Reasons to Visit San Diego this Fall

Most people equate San Diego, California, with summer vacations, but this beautiful city also has a lot to offer during the fall.

  1. Free Kids Play – In October, San Diego hosts Kids Free San Diego with major attractions like the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, Legoland, and roughly 30 additional attractions and museums promoting free admission to kids all month long. Discounts for restaurants and hotels are also offered.

  1. Beer Tasting – From Nov. 7 through 16, hundreds of beer-related events take place during San Diego Beer Week. This festival showcases the city’s award-winning pubs, craft beer, and breweries. 

  1. Dancing in the Streets – The 16th Annual Trolley Dances is presented by the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System and San Diego Dance Theater. On Sept. 27 and 28 and then again Oct. 4 and 5, you can ride the light-rail and be treated to a number of choreographed dance performances at various stops along the way.

  1. Food Fests Galore – Over 180 restaurants throughout San Diego will offer reduced priced meals during San Diego Restaurant Week from Sept. 20 to 27. From Sept. 21 through 26 and Nov. 17 through 23, the 11th Annual San Diego Wine & Food Festival takes place. The 12th Annual Celebrate the Craft is held Oct. 12 at the Lodge at Torrey Pines, showcasing famous vintners, chefs, and farmers from all over California with outstanding demonstrations.

  1. Fantastic Film Festivals – For the best American and International full-length films, this year’s biggest festival is the San Diego International Film Festival, scheduled for Sept. 24 through the 28th.

  1. Horse Racing – If you enjoy horseracing, you will love the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, which for the first time added a second racing season starting Sept. 3, 2015.

  1. Halloween Celebrations – San Diego has incredible Halloween events, including SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular, featuring trick-or-treat stations and the Clyde and Seamore Spooky Adventure.

  1. Musical Festivals – Fall is perfect for music, something evident in the largest two-day music festival. The 33rd Anna Adams Avenue Street Fair will be held on Sept. 27 and 28 and includes seven stages, four beer gardens, and over 90 special musical acts for various genres.

  1. Contemporary Art – From the United States, as well as Canada, Latin America, Europe, and Asia, more than 60 art galleries will showcase sculptures, paintings, photographs, prints, multimedia artworks, and videos in November at Art San Diego.

  1. Nature – San Diego boasts amazing trails and nature sanctuaries for strolling and taking in the scenery. With temperatures in the 70s and 80s, fall is the ideal time for enjoying the outdoors.
